Saul Steinberg is famous for this "1976 New Yorker cover, a map delineates not real space but the mental geography of Manhattanites," but he also did a bunch of other cool illustrations and mixed media stuff... (via the crafts dept)
I'm sort of old school about type. I think you can do anything with a good group of maybe four or five solid typefaces. But I also think there is a time and place for fun stuff like these...check them out here. And please use them responsibly.
