The concept here seems pretty tame,
but for some reason I find these things completely revolting.
I'm not squeemish by nature and I don't have a weird thing about feet,
so there's no real reason for my adverse reaction to them.

I'm not sure if it's the use of leopard,
the weird athletic supporter look below...
or the gross looking felt pads on the bottom
or maybe it's my visual images of them in use.
Which is another subject in entirety,

Cakeland, a sculptural installation, is a complete cake environment. Cakes are "wall mounted, hanging and standing-- a walk-through cake environment complete with its own lighting."

Artist, Scott Hove (a fellow Oaklander, Cakeland is on Shattuck & 55th or so), describes it as "a respite from the grinding realities of the outside world".

Sadly, they are not edible.

Here's the lowdown on Dieter (thanks wikipedia)...

Dieter Rams (born May 20, 1932 in Wiesbaden) is a German industrial designer closely associated with the consumer products company Braun and the Functionalist school[clarification needed] of industrial design.

Rams studied architecture at the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden as well as learning carpentry from 1943 to 1957. After working for the architect Otto Apel between 1953 and 1955 he joined the electronic devices manufacturer Braun where he became chief of design in 1961, a position he kept until 1995.

Rams once explained his design approach in the phrase "Weniger, aber besser" which freely translates as "Less, but better." Rams and his staff designed many memorable products for Braun including the famous SK-4 record player and the high-quality 'D'-series (D45, D46) of 35 mm film slide projectors. He is also known for designing the 606 Universal Shelving System by Vitsœ in 1960.

Many of his designs — coffee makers, calculators, radios, audio/visual equipment, consumer appliances and office products — have found a permanent home at many museums over the world, including MoMA in New York. For nearly 30 years Dieter Rams served as head of design for Braun A.G. until his retirement in 1998. He continues to be a legend in design circles and most recently designed a cover for Wallpaper magazine.

This is the final scene from Michelangelo Antonioni's 1970 film, Zabriskie Point. I saw it on Kitsune Noir. Skip to the two minute mark. This might be the most artful and beautiful "blowing shit up" scene ever.

It consists of a number of small works made entirely from office supplies, which are pinned up randomly around the office, in amongst the notices, flyers and memos that were already existing in the environment. Apparently this person has Syndactyly (It's a condition where two or more digits are fused together. It occurs normally in some mammals, such as the siamang but is an unusual condition in humans. Thank you interweb for the new knowledge.) and a sense of humor. As far as tattoos go, I like it. I do wish the pedicure was a little fresher.

Moss graffiti

I love this so much. It's sort of a cross between the whole reverse graffiti trend and vertical gardening. I want to start spraying mold spores on everything.

And how great is this as a type treatment.

This is the work of artist, Anna Garforth. She creates these pieces by attaching the moss to the wall using completely biodegradable ingredients, the moss will hopefully colonize and grow.

She also created this installation out of trash. I think Anna's my NBF.

I just read about Sheena Matheiken's Uniform Project on Good. I kind of want to adopt my own black dress uniform. It's like you get to decorate the cake every morning without having to bake it. She's doing it as “an exercise in sustainable fashion.” I'd be doing purely out of laziness.

Here's the premise..."There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies."

And she's really cute. I see her and want to be her.
